Powdered Metal Cam and Gear Release
(Click on thumbnail to enlarge) |
The part seen in the image, produced at our Colorado Sintered Metals location, is a cam and gear release component used in the braking systems of mass transit vehicles. Its specialty is the cam surface-gear teeth combo design, which offers safety and durability even under high-pressure applications. The gear O.D. is about 2.978" and the entire part weighs about 420 gms. We designed the tooling for this part in-house, ensuring that exact customer specifications were met. The cam and gear release was developed from copper infiltrated steel material through P/M compaction, sintering, and infiltration. Roller burnish I.D. process is used to control the tight I.D. tolerance and improve surface finish. We hand-pack around 2,500 of these parts per order and deliver them within 6 weeks production lead time to the customer.
